Fabric Art (Female)

This piece has such a fun, unforgettable story behind it. I originally created it for a juried art show in East Nashville called In the Nude — a show with a cash prize that featured nude figures interpreted through any medium. I entered both a male and a female version. This is the female counterpart.

I built this piece using bright pink bandana fabric, stitched together on my sewing machine, and then added black ruffled trim made from an actual pair of women’s underwear that I cut apart and sewed onto the frame. I wanted it to feel playful, bold, feminine, and a little mischievous — like something you’d find in the dressing room of a glamorous, multi-million-dollar home or a boutique with attitude.

The central figure is hand-beaded using sequins and pearls, drawn in the style of a fashion sketch — elegant, confident, and unmistakably in the nude. The entire piece has layers of humor, craft, and energy woven into it.

At the show, I ended up winning first place — not for this one, but for the male version that accompanied it. This piece remains one of the most unique artworks I’ve ever made, blending fabric art, mixed media, and personal style into something completely one-of-a-kind.
