Single Tree

This piece began with a photograph I took in Mississippi — a single tree standing alone in the middle of a wide open field beneath an expansive sky. Something about the simplicity of that moment stopped me. The openness. The solitude. The quiet strength of one tree holding its ground in so much space.

I printed that image and collaged it into the surface, then built layers of paint and texture around it using mixed media on canvas. The purple sky and muted earth tones create a sense of depth and atmosphere, almost like time slowing down. The tree becomes both a focal point and a meditation — a symbol of resilience, presence, and rootedness.
