This painting was created as part of my Transition series, exploring the emotional shifts we move through as humans. Built in layers, the piece reflects how our relationship to joy is constantly changing. Some days we feel close to it, fully connected and open. Other days it feels distant, blocked, or hidden behind invisible barriers.
The vertical bands represent those perceived limits we place between ourselves and what we long to feel. Yet underneath, color and energy remain present, reminding us that joy never fully disappears. It simply moves through phases, like we do.
This is one of the few remaining works from the original Transition show, capturing a moment of reflection on growth, change, and the emotional spectrum we navigate every day.

Beth Inglish is an expressive abstract and mixed-media artist whose work explores movement, emotion, and healing through intuitive mark-making. Her paintings translate embodied experience into layered visual language, inviting connection, release, and reflection.
