It’s hard to really to know a person. But, I think it’s even harder to know yourself.
Knowing means awareness and awareness means vulnerability and that means assuming risk. That means putting yourself out there in a way to feel things that you may or may not want to feel and that takes courage.
Brene Brown said it nicely, “Vulnerability is courage in motion.”
THE CHOICE
The first step is choosing to believe knowing yourself matters. Notice I said choose. Choice is powerful. It is more important to the process than you realize.
You have to choose what you want. You have to know what is ok and what is not ok. That is called boundaries. Boundaries create the space that you decide you need in order to move in a direction that will be healthy for you. Only you can choose.
When you don’t choose what is healthy for you, you will know, because your body will tell you everything before your mind will. Trust what your intuition tells you even when you don’t understand. Use your intuition as your guide and you will ultimately feel more certainty when you are being led by it.
These risks can be very rewarding, but inevitably when you take risks you experience loss. How you respond reveals who you are and what matters to you most.
THE RISK
Even getting to know what matters is a risk because you have to be vulnerable.
Knowing your inner most core is something that most people do not choose to do willingly, but when you do, then you know, and when you know you have vision and when you have vision you move your life in a direction that feels expansive. You’ll start making choices based on clarity about who you are, what you do, and why it matters.
When you know — the world is yours.
THE TRUTH
There’s nothing that can deviate you from knowing that truth. So if there’s anything that you take away right now, take away this: Knowing yourself matters. Taking time to discover what you’re truly about and why is worth it.
And when it’s uncomfortable that is when you know it’s working. That is when you know that you are creating change for yourself. When the habitual change occurs in the direction that you seek then you will create a new life. When you learn to know yourself on that level of awareness you will find yourself closer to your personal joy.
