I’m very interested in the eyes and how they communicate vulnerability or lack thereof. I look people in the eye because I want to know their heart underneath all the walls we build. Eyes give us the ability to say everything or nothing at all.
This curiosity inspired me to create a new photographic series with Nashville photojournalist, John Partipilo. The photos below are an extension of our ongoing collaborative project with Kristen Chapman Gibbons merging abstract art, photography and storytelling.
Initially we were inspired by the quote, “The eyes are the windows to the soul” and focused on shooting the eyes in a variety of different ways. I painted my face, painted the background and together we played until we found our flow.
The photos below were originally released on my Instagram including my thoughts on the project.
This work is helping me to push my own boundaries as an artist because it’s leading me to become even more vulnerable. Being open is how I live out my purpose — to inspire others to find hope through my story of transformation.
Matthew 6:22 says, “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light.”
It’s that simple. Be a light and shine bright.
“When you are creating you are positioning yourself in an open place to receive and in return give with your gifts. Through this process you are naturally attracting abundance, so careful with your thoughts.
When you are open and receiving your thoughts are manifesting very quickly so remain positive at all times to continue the attracting of abundance.
If it seems challenging to be positive then make a list of affirmations that affirm and reinforce your own ability and motivation to turn your dreams into reality. Look to new and/or different ways to bring about and achieve your goals and aspirations. Trust your inner-wisdom and allow it to guide you.”
What do you see when you truly look into someone’s eyes? Do you sense vulnerability? Can you sense healing through that openness?
Look closer. My healing will inspire your own. Give yourself permission, I did. This is what it means to be in community. We’re all part of each other and together we will support one another as we balance our growth.
